LAST SUMMER, I was in Desperate Need of a NEW SHED...

At first, I was simply going to head to my local Home Depot / Lowes and purchase a replacement shed.

After arriving at my local big box store to purchase a new pre-made shed, however, I was very underwhelmed by the selection – here’s why

CHEAP LOW-QUALITY MATERIALS

The pre-made sheds seemed to be constructed with the cheapest materials (OSB, 2"x3" studs, Non-pressure treated lumber, etc.) - which made me nervous about how long the shed would last.

LIMITED SELECTION WITH VERY LITTLE ROOM FOR CUSTOMIZATION

The Pre-made sheds were "boring" and seemed difficult to customize.

In that moment I decided that was going to build my own shed. But not just any shed – A unique, high quality, storage shed that I could be proud of for years to come.

I started by modeling the shed in a 3D software.

This step was crucial since it allowed me to optimize shed height, roof footprint, etc. to minimize building material waste.

Next, I put together a detailed materials list that INCLUDED everything that I would need to build the shed. I created my materials list as an excel spreadsheet and sent it to my local box store for them to prepare an order for delivery.

I don't have any construction experience. Can I build this Shed?

This is a fair question. When I built this shed, I had never built a shed or other structure before. However, I did have some general DIY Home Improvement experience. If you are taking the initiative to research “building your own shed” and have stumbled upon this guide, I can confidently say that I believe that YOU CAN DO THIS. It may take you a bit longer than others to complete this Shed (and you may need to get some help from friends/neighbors)… But when there is a will, there is a way.

How long Does it Take to Build This Modern Shed?

Some of you may be able to build this shed in a weekend while others may take several weekends. However, I recommend that you don’t rush it.
